Inspire With One Simple Question: "Why?"

By Jason Leahy posted 04-18-2011 11:51 AM

In this TED Talk, Simon Sinek challenges that the way we challenge and inspire people is to start with the question "Why?"  He hypothesizes that great leaders and businesses (and I would offer great teachers) start with this basic question.  Answering "why?" gets right to the heart of the matter.  "Why?" provides focus and purpose.  "Why?" provides meaning.  Mediocre businesses and leaders start by answering "what?"

Question for Reflection:
How are you trying to inspire people to change?  Have you clearly articulated the answer to the question "why?"
Do your teachers answer the question "why?" for their students when it comes to the content they have to deliver?
Are you and your staff overly focused on the "what?"
