Training Required Before Evaluating Certified Staff
As the new school year approaches, it is important to review the training requirements that administrators must complete before evaluating certified staff.  Specifically, administrators must complete/pass State-mandated training modules that have been produced by
Growth Through Learning and approved by the Illinois State Board of Education.

Before an administrator observes (formal or informal) a certified staff member, the administrator must complete/pass modules 1, 2 and 3.  Before evaluating a certified staff member without student growth, an administrator must also complete/pass module 4.  Before evaluating a certified staff member with a student growth component, an administrator must complete/pass all 5 modules.  (Click
HERE to determine when your school district must adopt student growth for teacher evaluations.)

Note that the above modules are required prior to evaluating certified staff. If you are a principal and are required to evaluate your assistant principal or other administrator, you must also complete/pass a set of training modules mandated by the State to evaluate administrative staff.

For more information on the required training modules, see the Illinois State Board of Education’s website.

For information on registering for the training modules, contact your superintendent or your Regional Office of Education.
